Brink… game changer?

by irama, 14 March 2010 @ 10:42

I saw some info about Brink a while ago and thought the art style looks amazing!! However, I immediately made the assumption ahhh… great art, therefore this is a single player console-centric game.

So I’m pretty excited now to find out I was wrong! Brink will support 8v8 online multiplayer (public and friends-only matches) with seamless drop-in-and-out matchmaking (similar to TF2). I’m hesitant to even suggest such a thing so early on, but — knock on wood — this might just be one of those games we find as fun and flexible as TF2?

And this might be a game-changer for other reasons, it uses an intelligent movement system to bring more natural action to FPS.

Tentatively slated for release in September, it’s another game we’ll have to wait for, but my feeling is that Brink will be worth the wait.

Who Dat Ninja?

by irama, 9 March 2010 @ 00:30

Introducing Who Dat Ninja… members who haven’t configured an avatar now get who dat ninja for free!

If you would like to choose a different avatar, please sign up for a Gravatar account using the same email address that is associated with your account here at clansnap.com.

There’s a selection of avatars to choose from in the member’s only section, or create or import your own avatar from elsewhere! (Let me know if you have ideas/requests for a special avatar, or avatars from a game/show/movie etc.)

Also worth noting, if you give yourself a bio it will appear atop your member profile page. More member profile features to come in a future update (to fill that gap in your widescreen monitor).

Now how to get this going with Dirt2

Farewell clansnap.com – Long live clansnap.com!!

by irama, 6 March 2010 @ 18:49

Well it wasn’t pretty, but it was grey, and that’s gotta count for something! I’m sure you’ve noticed, it’s gone!! Replaced by a younger, darker grey model.

The driver for this redesign was to bring focus back to the most important elements… the content. Over the past 2 years your posts and comments are what have made this site great (IMHO), so it’s about time they took centre stage!

Shout out to Dr Zorr for his ideas and inspiration. Other influences include Crysis and Steam 2010.

More changes to come in future, including selectable skins and improved profile pages. For now, take a look around, it’s not too different. All feedback and suggestions welcome!

PS Site works best in good browsers (also in this great browser).

Running commentary

I like global agenda. But for a game that wants to be considered an MMO it’s surprising it doesn’t make it easy for more than 4 of us to play PvP together. In that respect it sounds like Brink will be different.

you mean it could be another global agenda? :]

Denying credit, is it that bad?? ;)

BTW it should be easy to skin, so if you have ideas or requests for a new skin, let me know.

  5. I’m not taking any credit for this irama! It’s all you dude – genius!

  6. first up, respect JP, for getting irama on facebook (even if just admitting to watching a video).

secondly, we totally need to start using some of these techniques at work — headsets, and names above our heads, and respawning at boost when we need immunity packs.

  7. I don’t see the connection, but that vid is hilarious. Especially liked the baby shower raid / leeroy jenkins at the end :D

  8. Oh, no Irama? try this on for size.

Driving games are not my favourite genre, but that looks like a lot of fun!

So Valve are thinking about Portal 2. That should be out just in time for Christmas 2016.

I would settle for something that completely f#@ks up spys.

  12. I wonder what engy’s will get … I reckon the risk of leaving nests unprotected could be mitigated a little by alarms and/or booby traps. but I’m sure valve will figure something better. oh, they should give the engy a banjo :)

  13. I like the new overlay, good to have a clock in it too! and now we can web browser with safety (webkit) while waiting on loads and stuff … actually, overlay is still inaccessible during loading. ah well, apart from that (which is no change) I like it!

  14. Ahh that probably explains why it’s more responsive now :D

  15. have only had a quick look myself …
store redesign seems interesting. I like the downloads info (under library > downloads), finally exposing the download size and download rates!

very interested to read they’ve switched to webkit from IE for rendering … :)
