Internet filtering bothers me at the deepest levels of my psyche. Any Governmental attempts to restrict access to the internet mark the start of a disturbing trend that can’t end well.
You may feel I’m over-reacting, well maybe I am… a little, but you should know that once the filters are turned on:
- The internet will be slower for Aussies
- Inappropriate material will still be available via peer-to-peer networks and email
- The wrong sites will be blocked (even the best filtering software returns false positives)
- Oz will be the only western democracy in the world to have introduced mandatory server-level filtering
- Online games may be blocked and any sites selling games for older than 15 year olds will be blocked!!
If like me, you feel internet filtering is unacceptable, and you get a chance to speak up, I urge you to join the fight.
