The SMARTslow way to preorder BRINK

Posted by spiii on April 30th, 2011 @ 13:47

You’ve heard about BRINK here before, but might have been put off by the USD 89.99 price tag on Steam. And rightly so, it made page 2 of the top rip-offs since it’s USD 49.99 in the US and £29.99 (about the same price) in the UK. It’s enough to make Fumbles rage-play Global Agenda: Free Agent (now free to play for everyone who wants to wear a turkey on their head). But before we cross that line—here is the SMART way to preorder BRINK: preorder BRINK for $38.83 (AUD) with free shipping from Ausgamez.

Yep, you will get a CD (what the heck are CDs?) Never fear, it is a steam game so once installed it’ll be in the familiar land of steam games. Just think of it as preloading via snail mail.

Now, I couldn’t decide which trailer to include here, so here are two.

One with a funky soundtrack…

And one with a Royal-wedding-commentator-like voiceover…

I guess they had to use a lady voiceover as there are no female characters in the game. That will make comparing heroines difficult, but—it’s been done before.

Got to say, I was happy to preorder for $38.83. No way I was paying $90!!

You have 1 month to complete Portal 2…

…then Brink is out.

Sadly, no multipacks for purchase on Steam. No system requirements either! :/

Important clan dates again:

21 April

24 April
Eat chocolate
20 May

Brink different

Posted by tofu on June 19th, 2010 @ 20:02

I watched the first gameplay movie a while ago and I was disappointed. I started to think Brink looked like a technical shooter, too hardcore to ever be as fun as TF2 or L4D.

But after watching the second portion of gameplay (embedded below) I’m thinking differently. This video makes the game appear a little technical but still fun — BTW support for gung-ho, run-and-gun style tactics = FUN!

Unfortunately, it seems the release date has slipped to Early 2011.

I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again… my feeling is that Brink will be worth the wait.

Brink… game changer?

I saw some info about Brink a while ago and thought the art style looks amazing!! However, I immediately made the assumption ahhh… great art, therefore this is a single player console-centric game.

So I’m pretty excited now to find out I was wrong! Brink will support 8v8 online multiplayer (public and friends-only matches) with seamless drop-in-and-out matchmaking (similar to TF2). I’m hesitant to even suggest such a thing so early on, but — knock on wood — this might just be one of those games we find as fun and flexible as TF2?

And this might be a game-changer for other reasons, it uses an intelligent movement system to bring more natural action to FPS.

Tentatively slated for release in September, it’s another game we’ll have to wait for, but my feeling is that Brink will be worth the wait.
