FYI Snappers in South East Queensland. LanSmash, a long-running quarterly LAN gaming event have announced WinterSmash. This runs all day and into the evening. Set your calendars for the 9th of July, at the QEII stadium Mt Gravatt.
PS. Fumbles & shmitee have expressed interest in attending, which is good because Andy and I need a car driving Soccer Mom, to help get us to the event.
In the grand tradition of SNAP LANs, we tend to mix gaming with other nerdy pursuits—often of a musical inclination—in what inevitably approaches even measure.
As you would be aware, ALS2:ROTV swiftly approaches and there have been questions raised as to what we might get up to between gaming, drinking and the odd bout of sleeping. Suggestions have included more tromfoolery, competitive crochet or some form of ironic musical fusion involving auto-tuned vuvuzela, trombome, handsonic, vocalisation and other sampled elements.
Which leads me inexorably to the only logical conclusion… It’s time for us to put together our very first Nerdcore Hip Hop track.
Whatcore?
For the uninitiated, Nerdcore is a soon-to-be-thriving genre of musical expression for geeky types who are too white to be rappers or who have too much self-respect to be Eminem. Examples range from veterans MC Frontalot and MC Chris to these three white dudes—and then there are the gamerz…
Your clan needs you!
There are many ways to contribute, we will need lyrics (start arranging your best smack-talk into iambic pentameter), musical ideas/influences/performances (for example: we know trombone and hip hopJust Works™), samples and eventually some in-game demos/footage in order to cut together an appropriately pimp video for the track.
But first step, we need a theme.
Some ideas:
Tongue-in-cheek clan anthem—think some noobs are powerul
Ironic social commentary / public service announcement—think pro-PC gaming, or anti-wow banter
