Survival mode is the most intense gaming ever. Where else can you run into two tanks simultaneously while being mobbed by multiple smokers, hunters and hordes of infected?
Some strategies discussed below:
Blood Harvest
The Warehouse
- Usually jerry cans and gas cylinders are plentiful

Top gantry
- + horde run and usually fall off before they get to you
- + enough distance in front that Boomers aren’t usually a problem
- - not close to ammo
- — if Smokers get you, they will pull you into the pit from which its tough to return
Verdict: Not ideal
Little room with emergency door
- + only three access points (all in front)
- - room is too small, once you see a Boomer or Tank its too late
- - not able to see when its clear for ammo run
- - hard to use flammables or pipes in confined space
- — when Smokers get you, they will pull you out away from protection
Verdict: Not ideal
Far corner (behind shelves)
- + most horde funneled in through one entrance
- + can trap entrance with collected jerry cans and gas cylinders
- + enough distance in front Boomers aren’t usually a problem
- + enough room that Tank can only beat on one or two survivors at a time (and can usually drop Tanks with shotties before they reach us)
- - Smokers and Tanks can attack from above
- - not close to ammo (don’t do ammo runs)
Verdict: it works
The Farmhouse
- Jerry cans, gas cylinders, pipes and mollies are plentiful

The farmhouse
- - collapsible walls, fairly exposed, attacks can come from many directions.
Verdict: Undetermined
The barn loft
Prep by swapping out mollies, so there are pipes lying around up top. Don’t use many gas cans (if any), they are a hazard. Stay up against the side wall, two survivors left of hay bales, two on the right
- + only two attack directions, left and front
- + Tanks usually come on the left, and can be pumped full of shot while slowly climbing up
- + very few Boomers make it up
- Smokers usually appear on the left in pairs, one survivor should be on constant smoker watch
- - Smokers can pull you out of the barn, baaad news
Verdict: it works
Dead Air
The Terminal
Toilets
- + protected. Only one entrance
- + can guard entrance two on either side (hordes caught in cross fire)
- can back into bathroom when tanks come for more room to move
- Women’s side has more room to move
- - ammo/health may be tricky (can’t see when run is clear, likely to encounter many smokers/hunters)
- - dark
Verdict: Undetermined
Front kiosk
- ++ loads of mollys and pipes
- + ammo/health runs are plausible
- - a little exposed, smokers can drag a long way. Tanks can throw cement from a distance
Verdict: It works for some people (not yet for us)
Out in the middle
- ++ ammo/health runs are fairly easy
- + can access mollys and pipes by running to kiosk
- + can run with Tanks, so they don’t usually throw cement from a distance
- + forced to confront Smokers early, so they don’t stack up
- - a little exposed, smokers can drag a fair distance.
Verdict: it works!
Far back corner
- + protected on two sides and from above
- + ammo/health runs are plausible (but not recommended)
- + enough room to move from tanks
- - tanks can throw cement from a fair distance
Verdict: Undetermined
Death Toll
The Street
Back end of street
- use minigun at start …
- over time fall back to ammo pile…
- continue falling back to beginning of street
- take shelter on side under building
- most zombies came from down the street
- the minigun might be useful with better support from humans!
Verdict: Undetermined
Over the walkway, down side alley
- + usually only one approach for zombies (Smokers/Boomers somtimes appear in window behind)
- + just enough room to cover hunter pounces (if two stay forward)
- + enough room in front that Boomers are rarely an issue
- + can usually duck Tank debris
- - Smokers can pull you out in the open
- - A little confined (not far to run from tank)
Verdict: It works!
The Boathouse
- +++ jerry cans everywhere to stockpile!
In the water behind the jetty
- - zombies can swim
- - bobbing zombie heads are creepy!
- + headshots
- + smokers pull you against the jetty, simple/safe melee to save someone
- + hunters and boomers don’t seem very effective in the water
- - tanks bash you a long way away
- + crouching gives a very clear underwater view
- + crouching helps find jerry cans lost underwater
- - fire does not burn underwater

No Mercy
The Gas Station
- No jerry cans or gas cylinders on this map

Room with car
- + pipes and mollies
- + can use car to get up on shelves at back. Good protection from Smokers
- ~ some cover from smokers (don’t think they’d drag you out of the room either)
- - Not an easy ammo run. Tricky to see when run is clear, and its a fair distance
- — Car. Tank smashes it around, easy wipe
Verdict: Not ideal
Room in far building
- + pills and med packs (wait until you have used your med packs and need healing before you open the med cabinet)
- + Boomers don’t seem to find there way in very often
- + only three main entry points to the room, all in front of you (no destructable walls)
- + enough room that Tank can only beat on one or two survivors at a time (and can usually drop Tanks with shotties before they reach us)
- - Smokers can pull you to the window, and if unlucky, a second smoker can then pull you to the ground
- - No access to ammo
Verdict: it works
The Sewers
- - do not stand where the switch is, that’s burning to death … shame
cos there’s a nice cage for protection - - do not attempt to climb out and run back down the tunnel, zombies
pour out at the start
Corner near bridge
- + mollies and pipes
- - zombies climb up all sides
- - zombies come through a tunnel in the wall
- - smokers pull you into the water
Verdict: Undetermined
Generator Room
- survive the first wave (the door slowly rolls up)
go through the door, and hang about on the staircase inside (worth trying)
The Rooftop
I tried jumping down behind the radio room… stockpiled weapons.
You get a great view to each side and an airconditioner that protects
the front and a wall behind you (the radio room is up top).
unfortunately zombies pour over the wall. Still, pretty good
protection from smokers.
I didn’t try but like the idea of the little closed in bit under the
helipad. if you get smokered out of there it would be trouble tho.
