How many of you have been wondering what HiRez have been up to? You’ve forgotten who HiRez are? They made Global Agenda. You haven’t thought about them at all? Well then you’ll be pleased to know that they have beta access up and running for Tribes Ascend. It’s an FPS with very fast skiing downhill. Free to play (not just in beta, free to play at launch), so it’s full of boosters and paid upgrades. We should really call this model free to pay I think.

Anyway, I tried the beta and even played DM. It’s surprisingly easy to pick up. There was also a flag moving around. I don’t know how that works in deathmatch, but given the jetpacks and skiing and a rough grasp of physics attained playing minigolf in formative years, you can blam right in the sweet spot with ease. That’s the spot where the jumping, skiing crowd are going to land. Even I scored 5 kills! And no deaths! (haha, the UI doesn’t list deaths, win!!) That makes my ratio 5/0 which is undefined!
